 ●  Lord William Bentinck (1828-1835)

    • He was the First Governor General of India.
    • The Father of Modern Western Education in India.
    • 1829 - Abolished Sati Pratha.
    • 1830 - Suppression of Thugi.
    • Passed the Charter Act - 1833.
    • 1835 - First Medical College was opened  in Calcutta.
    • Introduced English in colleges.



●  Sir Charles Metcalfe (1835-1836)
    
    • He passed famous Press law, which Liberated the press of India.
    • He is known as Liberator of Press.


●  Lord Auckland (1836-1842)
   
    • First Afghan War (1836 to 1842).
    • Death of Ranjit Singh (1839).



●  Lord Ellenborough (1842-1844)
    
    • Brought End of Afghan War - 1842.
    • Abolished Slavery.



●  Lord Hardinge (1844-1848)
    
    • 1845 - Danish Possession was sold to English.
    • 1st Anglo-Sikh War.
    • Treaty of Lahore.



●  Lord Dalhousie (1848-1856)
    
    • Second Anglo-Sikh war (1848-49) and Annexation of Punjab.
    • WidowRemarriage Act - 1856.
    • He introduced Railway, Telegraph and the Postal System in 1853.
    • Charter Act - 1853.
    • Last Governor General of India.
