-> The story
started when Humayun, the son of Mughal empire’s founder (Babar) lost the war
against the Sher Shah Suri in 1540.
-> The Sher Shah Suri established a Sur Empire. The second Afghan
dynasty to rule Delhi.
-> He died in 1545. The succession was passed to his
younger son Islam Shah Suri. He was a capable
ruler, until he was alive, Humayun could not capture the Delhi.
-> After his
death in 1554, The Firoz Shah was true heir to the throne but soon he was murdered by his maternal uncle, who acquired the
throne as Adil Shah Suri.
->Adil Shah was a
man of pleasure and never shows interest on
state affairs. The state affairs were left to the Hemu,
an old Hindu associate of Sher Shah.
-> Hemu had
secured the position of Chief Minister as well as the
general of suri army.
-> With Adil Shah’s doing, many rebellion successors came
but no one could secure their place and finally when Sikandar Suri came to
rule, the empire was weakened enough.
-> The Humayun took full advantage of that and regained
what he had lost. He became the king again.
-> Humayun died in 1556,
he was succeeded by Akbar, his son.
-> The Hemu was in Bengal. The death of Humayun made an
ideal situation for Hemu to defeat Mughals. He started march from Bengal towards
north and drove the Mughals out of
Banaya,
Lakhna,
Etawah,
Bharthana,
Bindhuna,
Narnaul
kalpi.
-> Hemu was an excellent leader, he won 22 battles while serving Suri dynasty.
-> Hemu won Agra, as Akbar’s commander fled the city
without fighting.
-> He then marched towards Delhi and on 6 Oct 1556 a war
had been fought.
-> The Hemu’s army encountered Mughal resistance, after a
fierce fight Akbar’s forces were thrown out.
-> Targi beg, the commander of the Mughal forces fled out
of Delhi.
-> Hemu won the battle, and with this, he established Hindu rule in North India after 350 years.
-> He then took the throne of Delhi on 7
October 1556.
-> He gained the royal title of Hem
Chandra Vikramaditya.
