●  Born - 15,October, 1931 at Rameswaram, Tamilnadu.


●  Full Name - Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam.

●  Parents - Jainulabdeen Marakayar (Father) and Ashiamma (Mother).

●  Kalam was the youngest among his Siblings.

●  He completed his school at Schwartz Higher Secondary School, Ramanathapuram, then he went to Saint Joseph College, Tiruchirappalli, then He joined University of Madras,  from where He Graduated in Physics in 1954.

●  1955 - He Joined Madras Institute of Technology to study Aerospace Engineering.

●  He placed 9th in Qualifiers,  only 8 Positions were available for Fighter pilot in IAF, SO He couldn't become Fighter Pilot.

●  1960 - He Graduated from Madras Institute of Technology.

●  He joined Aeronautical Development Establishment of DRDO (DEFENSE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ORGANISATION) as a Scientist. 


●  He was not Satisfied with his Job in DRDO.

●  1969 - Kalam was Transferred to the ISRO (INDIAN SPACE RESEARCH ORGANISATION) where he was the project Director of India's First Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-lll) which successfully deployed the Rohini Satellite in near earth Orbit in July, 1990.

●  1965 - He had started Work on an expandable Rocket Project Independently at DRDO, Later in 1969 kalam received Government's Approval. 

●  Words by Him - “Don't take rest after your first victory because if you fail in second, more lips are waiting to say that your first victory was just luck.”


●  1970 to 1990 - in between this time period,  He made an Effort to Develop the PSLV (POLAR SATELLITE LAUNCH VEHICLE) and SLV-lll projects, both then proved to be Successful.

●  Kalam was invited by Ram Ramanna to witness the country’s first Nuclear test 'Smiling Buddha' as a Representative of TBRL (TERMINAL BALLISTIC RESEARCH LABORATORY).

●  1982-83 - Cabinet Approved 3.88 Billion budget for the IGMDP (INTEGRATED GUIDED MISSILE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME) and Kalam was appointed as the Chief Executive of Programme.

●  Kalam Played Important role in Missile Development Programme like
    1. AGNI (An Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile
    2. PRITHVI (The Tactical Surface to Surface Missile)

●  July,1992 to December,1999 - Kalam served as
    1. Chief Scientific Adviser of Prime Minister
    2. Secretary of DRDO

●  In Pokhran-ll  Nuclear Test, He Played Important Political and Technological Rolevand He served as chief Coordinator along with Rajagopala Chindanbaram.

●  1998 - Kalam and Cardiologist Soma Raju Developed a Loe Cost Coronary Stent. In 2012, the duo designed a rugged Tablet computer for Health Care in Rural Areas, named Kalam-Raju Tablet.

●  18,July,2002 - He won The Presidential Election and became 11th President of India.

●  1997 - Kalam received Bharat Ratna, He was the 3rd President of India to Honoured with Bharat Ratna, First two was
    1. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (1954)
    2. Zakir Hussain (1963).

●  May, 2012 - Kalam Launched a Programme for the Youth Of India called the " What can I Give Movement " with central theme of Defeating Corruption.

●  Died - 27, July , 2015 at Shillong, Meghalaya.
